Originair’s inaugural flight to Christchurch is scheduled for take-off from Marlborough Airport on Sunday 19 October at 3.10pm, with an expected flight time of 50 minutes.

A two-pilot crew will operate the pressurised twin turboprop plane.

Marlborough Airport welcomes the public to see the plane land and take off for this first flight – the airport has installed a viewing point for plane spotting.

The plane, a British Aerospace Jetstream, is leaving Nelson at 2.10pm, then landing in Marlborough before heading to Christchurch.

Originair is providing non-stop, return service from Blenheim to Christchurch several times per week, and is looking to scale up to all-week double-daily service if there is demand.

Marlborough Airport is doing everything possible to support Originair for long-term success of this route, Chief Executive Dean Heiford said.

“It’s now up to the community and market to show there is demand for this route, which will ensure the consistency and longevity of the service,” he said.

In addition to Christchurch, Originair has also introduced a return service between Blenheim and Palmerston North.
